Technical Steering Committee: Reflecting on our first year

By October 17, 2025No Comments

As we mark the first anniversary of the OpenSearch Software Foundation’s Technical Steering Committee (TSC), it’s important to celebrate the milestones we’ve achieved and acknowledge the dedicated individuals who helped shape our foundation’s technical direction.

Key achievements

In the past year, our TSC successfully established its operational framework to ensure ongoing technical oversight of the project. One of our most impactful initiatives was the launch of Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs), creating focused spaces for collaboration and innovation in specific technical domains.

A particularly significant milestone was the completion of our first TSC election on October 8, representing a crucial step in our commitment to community-driven leadership and transparent governance. This process helps ensure diverse perspectives in technical leadership that will continue to steer the project forward.

Gratitude to outgoing members

With the election concluded, we want to express our deepest appreciation to our outgoing TSC members who have been instrumental in laying the foundation for our success:

  • Anandhi Bumstead (AWS), who served as our inaugural TSC Chair
  • Andriy Redko (Independent)
  • Austin Lee (Aryn)
  • Daniel Doubrovkine (AWS)
  • Eli Fisher (AWS)

Their leadership, technical expertise, and dedication have been invaluable in establishing the TSC and guiding the OpenSearch Software Foundation through its crucial early stages.

Welcome to new members

The TSC welcomes the following newly elected and reelected individuals, who will serve through 2027:

  • Amitai Stern (Independent) (reelected)
  • Eric Pugh (OpenSource Connections)
  • Jonah Kowall (Paessler) (reelected)
  • Michael Froh (Uber)
  • Mikhail Stepura (Apple)
  • Nils Bandener (Eliatra)
  • Prudhvi Godithi (AWS)
  • Samuel Herman (IBM) (reelected)

Their fresh perspectives and expertise will be vital as the project continues to grow and evolve. The foundation is entering an exciting new phase, and we look forward to building upon the strong foundation established by our inaugural members. They will serve with the members who are continuing their leadership through 2026:

  • Andrew Ross (AWS)
  • Bryan Burkholder (Slack/Salesforce)
  • Karsten Schnitter (SAP)
  • Pallavi Priyadarshini (AWS)
  • Shubham Gupta (Uber)
  • Yakun Li (Bytedance)
  • Yupeng Fu (Uber)

And a special congratulations to our newly elected committee chair, Andrew Ross!

Looking forward

The OpenSearch community continues to demonstrate the power of open-source collaboration. We invite all community members to engage with the TSC and help shape the future of OpenSearch. Whether through participating in TAGs, contributing to discussions, or sharing your expertise, your involvement is essential to our continued success.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to making this first year a success. Together, we’re building a stronger, more vibrant OpenSearch community.
