The OpenSearch Software Foundation Ambassador Program is moving to a rolling application model. Starting now, community members can apply at any time, and our selection committee will review submissions and welcome new ambassadors twice a year, in February and August. Apply today to be considered for our next cohort. Reviews start on August 7, 2026.
Launched in September 2025, the ambassador program recognizes individuals who actively support the OpenSearch open source community by sharing knowledge, organizing events, creating content, and helping others get started with OpenSearch. Ambassadors play an important role in growing and sustaining the project by connecting people, ideas, and real world use cases.
Who should apply
The program is designed for people who enjoy helping others learn OpenSearch. Applicants do not need to be experts in every area. A genuine interest in supporting the OpenSearch community and a willingness to participate consistently are the most important qualifications.
Whether you are already active in the community or looking to take a more visible role, the Ambassador program offers an opportunity to contribute in a structured and supported way.
What ambassadors do
OpenSearch Ambassadors help strengthen the community by:
- Organizing or participating in meetups, workshops, and talks
- Creating educational content such as blogs, guides, or videos
- Supporting newcomers and answering questions in community channels
- Sharing updates, highlighting best practices, and encouraging collaboration
A rolling review process
Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, so there is no deadline to apply. Twice a year, in February and August, our selection committee reviews all pending applications. Ambassador reviewers score applications and take part in committee discussion, and final acceptance decisions are made by the core program committee.
